Paul Casey had a 9-under 63 Thursday at Kingsbarns to lead by one shot after the first round of the Dunhill Links, strengthening his bid to win the European Order of Merit.
The 29-year-old Englishman is ?120,000 ($152,000) ahead in the money-order list of second-place David Howell, who shot 75 at Kingsbarns with a lingering shoulder injury to be 145th.
"I would dearly love to win it and if it happens, it happens," Casey said of the Order of Merit.
